The Dhananjayans USA tour - May 20 - August 8 2007
Reception for the Dhananjayans at Natya Dhaara in Atlanta, GA
Our dance teacher, Uma Aunty (Uma Pulendran) told us her gurus, V.P Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan were coming and that we were going to have a reception.
We were thrilled and happy to be given an opportunity to dance a 'Thillana'. When everyone arrived Uma Aunty's guru asked someone to sing. Everyone was reluctant and gave excuses saying they forgot the words of the song. They told us when you learn any art you never forget. When you start you will remember. They encouraged us to sing and they sang with us. They gave some advice saying one hour of class isn't enough. You should practice at home also.
They said, the following day they were going to Yogaville in Virginia where they conduct a summer camp for the past 20 years.
We started the dance performance with a Ganesh song followed by the 'Madhurashtakam' and then the 'Thillana' and received their blessings. They called some of the other students and asked them to do some steps. We would always cherish this moment for having the opportunity to perform in front of such great teachers.
Finally, everyone had yummy refreshments.
